okaylah. i guess it's time to talk about perth. funny, the last time i went there, i was in sec 1. but the 2 experiences seem so different. it's like i noticed so much more this time than the last time i was there.
getting there
the plane ride there was great. but i realised tt somehow i'd managed to develop an irrational fear of flying, so i spent a considerable amt of time on both flights praying for a safe trip. haha. anyway the plane we took there was great, the krisworld was like the most updated one, so they were showing over 20 different movies, including
l'auberge espanol and
kal ho naa ho. cool rite? and diverse. they also had a whole range of cds in the the database for u to listen to. mercifully, no good charlotte. haha. and you can even restart the movie, or forward it to the part you want to watch. it was really cool. i watched
catwoman. it was cool, but i don't really like the ending. who cld leave benjamin bratt, man? i listened to usher's
confessions. it's nice, but it has only one fast number. sorry, too many slow songs pon boleh jadi boring. the food was great as usual, and now they've added dessert to the menu so u get a stick ice-cream after ur meal, isn't tt cool? anyway, no cute guys. okay, fine, there were, cos of all the feringhees, but no eye-catching cute guys. and there was one taufik impostor! he was like wearing the tshirt-and-jacket combo with a trucker cap. hello! he was travelling! in a plane! with his family! jgn nak eksyen big shot, please! the customs at perth was really shitty. well basically, the perth airport is really shitty. it's like 2 storeys high and they turn off the aircon at night. and you have to pay 3 bucks to use *A* trolley. and it's absolutely filthy outside. apparently the domestic airport is much nicer. ape je. shouldn't it be the other way around? anyway. we sat there and waited for the rest to come out. and auntie shirley came out, and she came to speak to us before she went home, and i noticed this hot guy behind her, and i realised it was shaun! omg! he was still amazingly hot! i wanted to die. cos i looked extremely shitty and uncool. anyway i only got to see him for like 2 seconds before we were ushered out into the 19-degrees-celsius night, so i spent half the trip hoping and praying i'd see him again.
dumb dreams
i kept having stupid dreams. every night i'd have a stupid dream tt featured a different guy in the lead. once it was even lumut! like, seriously. what was WITH the dreams.
weather report
the weather was okay. the nights are really really cool, and if the breeze blows, it'll be really really cold. but in the daytime the sun comes out, so it's really hot, but it's super dry so you won't sweat. but if u stand in the shade you'll be cold cos there's usually a breeze blowing. but seriously, the dry weather was really killing my skin. you have to apply moisturiser like twice a day. and my face was practically flaking! really annoying.
life indoors
i didn't do much there. when i was at home, i either stoned in the room, ate, or watched tv. i did alot of stoning. as in real stoning. i'd just sit there and stare at the bedspread, for like hours. it was really bad. but the tv was good actually. they have satellite, which is sort of like cable, so they have lots of channels and stuff. there are like, 4 music channels or smthg: mtv, channel v, VH1, and Club [it plays clubbing songs, duh]. and they have like, nick and stuff. and 2 comedy channels, which show "the naked news". that's a news show where the newscaster is standing, fully clothed, and starts taking his/her clothes off, piece by piece, while reading the news poker-faced. and at the end they're just standing there, butt naked, with reading the news. and sorry, i didn't watch tt. there were kids in the house! and basically all the programs are completely uncensored. i mean, in Singapore even the cable channels censor "fuck", which i can't understand. in addition to new programs, they ran all those old favourites like
the nanny and
popular, both of which i absolutely adore. anyway yah you can't go out alone at night cos it's not like Singapore, where you can like pole-dance at a random void deck and not get raped. and you can't go out in the daytime unless you have a car, cos the malls are quite far away frm the residential areas, even in the suburbs. and the bus service is infrequent and expensive. which is why i stayed home alot.
life outdoors
i got to sit infront in the car ALL THE TIME. how cool is that? we went everywhere. maddingtons, livingston marketplace, makro, good sammy's [secondhand shop, not unlike the salvation army thrift stores], carousel and even town. we took the bus to town. that was an experience. they have an entire bus lane separated from the rest of the vehicles by an actual barrier. the shopping was great. i did most of mine at K-Mart and Big W. haha. but seriously, they have great clothes and shoes there! and i bought enough sluardalams to open my own shop! haha. all the malls in the suburbs are single-storey, and in town it's double-storey. and it's so cool how in the suburbs, you get to see the sky ALL the time. no skyscraping buildings to spoil the view. oh and what i love about shopping there is that they have my size, in both shoes and clothes. it's an amazing phenomenon that doesn't happen in singapore, espesh the part about shoes. i got a whole bunch of shoulder-dusters at carousel.. and i had crepes there too. apparently shaun likes crepes with bananas and chocolate. something to keep in mind there.. haha. town was great, there are lotsa places to eat, and we had lunch at this place called "insan's cafe".. it wasn't tt great, actually.. cos i mean, they cater to weak western tastebuds, so it wasn't spicy or anything. and the prices were like wow. tinggi giler sey. my dad sed it's because of the rent they have to pay, since it's in town and all.
oh the houses are so beautiful.. most are single-storey but you get double-storeys sometimes.. and it's quite common to build your own house.. and yah it was all just really nice to look at. my personal favourite was this one not far away from ours, it's a double-storey of dark red brick.. really nice and homey-looking.
the beach
we went to the beach on ellna's birthday, the 21st. at rockingham. apparently tt's a family beach, which explains the lack of hotties. but whatever. it's still really nice, and the water is clear and beautiful, and it's like knee-high for the first 10 metres or smthg. and the sand? wow. it slips through your fingers like flour, it's THAT fine. and let me repeat, the weather is dry, so i was having a great time tanning without the lecehness of sweating.
i also went to an actual boardwalk, at sorrento quay.. wow i mean, you've watched them on tv, like on
pacific blue or
CSI: Miami or smthg, but you don't have one here in Singapore, with actual floorboards and stuff, do you? yeah. and they have all these nice houses that look out onto the water, which you can rent for the day, or week, or month! wow. and they also had all these huge boats up for sale. it was really cool. there was one going for $170 000--it has accomodation for 8, with 2 bathrooms, etc. if only i had the bucks, that'd be the first thing i'd buy.
the zoo
perth zoo sucks. please don't go there. it really sucks! half the animals are in hiding cos it was SO hot. the other half are like, listless, like the poor orangutans who were in the shade to escape from the heat. i was eager to see all the native animals, but when i went to the dingo enclosure, i couldn't see a single one. and forget the kangaroos. not a sign! actually, there were signs, but there wasn't a single kangaroo. so whatever.
however, they have nice picnic areas with barbecue pits which you can book if you wanna have a family picnic, so i guess it isn't all bad. and it IS quite a huge zoo.
hotties
they were EVERYWHERE! at maddington's there was this wade robson-lookalike. he was trying on this tshirt so he just took off his own, right there in the middle of the mall, and put on the other one. wow. and as expected, i couldn't stop staring. i'm convinced he's wade's relative, since wade IS from australia.
another time there was this danny mcfly-lookalike, at sorrento quay. trucker cap, dark straight hair, fair and rosy-cheeked, kiut! he polished off his fish and chips in record time.
oh and in target in town, there was this prince william-lookalike called sean at the counter. wow he was really really prince-williamy! i was just dying there.
and half the time i'd be like, wow that guy is cute, and he'd turn out to be like, the father of a 3-year-old! haha. klakar.
ooh and i was watching this streetshow in town, and this whole GANG of like, hispanic-looking hotties strode past! they were really really hot! wow. ooh and i saw a decaf-lookalike, except he was wearing silver jewelry, as opposed to gold. haha.
so if you wanna see hotties, town is the best place, followed by sorrento quay. and i mean, in sorrento quay, it's more likely than not tt they'll be dressed only in shorts! haha.
quirks
there. are. so. many. FAT GIRLS!!! i swear. if you think i'm fat [which i'm sure you do], i am a supermodel compared to these girls. they're like, bulgingly fat, and what's worse is that they unabashedly wear skimpies like layered tank tops with tight miniskirts and stuff. eeew. there were many occasions where i'd be sitting down watching them go by, and pointing out the latest fat girl to my mom or any of my other relatives. haha. and it's not just girls, there are many fat mothers and stuff.. there was one unfortunate braless one once. eeee..
bare feet is an amazingly common phenomenon in the suburbs. [the town is too dirty.] they'll just be walking around the malls, the carpark, and wherever elses, not wearing any shoes. at first i thought it was just kids, but then i'd see 20-something couples, where the guy is shoeless and the girl's wearing shoes, or the other way around. funn-ay. even in the zoo, there was this boyfriend not wearing his sandals [they were on his bag]. tak faham. i mean, i hate shoes too, but the world is just too dirty for me to consider liberating my feet to tt extent.
ever seen graffiti? the Singapore brand of graffiti is nothing compared to international graffiti! the toilets of the McDonald's in town were just covered with them. and it looks quite nice, really. my brother took a photo of a graffiti-ed wall and made it his phone wallpaper. haha.
ohyah. extension of the fat-girl-quirk. some of them have boyfriends!!! what injustice is this?!?!?!? haha.
oh and uncle matt spotted this tshirt on a guy tt sed "YOU'VE BEEN A BAD GIRL. GO TO MY ROOM." wahaha. klakar sey.
christmas
it was quite great. you know they have the christmas light-up at orchard every year? well i didn't get to see it this year, but i got to see the light-up in perth. there are certain streets where practically all the houses there have their own decorations. and i'm not talking christmas trees with tinsel and the angel on top, and maybe candles in the windows. they have stuff like santa claus and his sleigh and reindeer on the roof, the manger scene set up in the lawn, even a wishing well next to the driveway whose proceeds go to some children's charity. it's all so pretty with all the colourful lights and stuff.. and at night there'll be lots of people walking along these streets, admiring them, and even taking photos is not out of the question, so i took some of my own. okay, fine, i went trigger-happy. but it was really great. apparently they have this competition for the best light-up. the winner gets free power for the year or smthg. ooh there was this one house where the guy has a mini-carrel and he has a pony in it, which he lets the kids ride. cool rite? so much more personal and interactive than in Singapore. ooh i just love Christmas. and it's so much bigger in western countries than in Singapore, so everyone was like wishing us "Merry Christmas".. how fun!
we even got presents for Christmas, cos they celebrate it there. i got a miniskirt!!! woohoo! it was so great! they got it from the carousel k-mart.. and it's really nice, and it actually fits, unlike all the miniskirts they have here in Singapore.
coming home
anyway yeah Christmas Day also meant Going-Home Day, and i was so excited to go home!!! i'd been counting down since day 5 or smthg. but it also meant tt i wouldn't be able to see shaun ever again. i mean, it was the day i was leaving, how would i ever get a chance to see him before i left, right?
we made good time at the airport, so we sat at red rooster eating chips while waiting to go in. [oh tt's one thing i forgot to mention. fries in perth are called "chips". they're heeuuge! all fat and full of kentang, and really deeelish. even kfc and whatever serve those fat chips instead of the skinny-nak-mampos fries.] then suddenly this guy comes out of nowhere and says hi to cik lin. guess who?!?!?! it was shaun! apparently he works at the airport, at ale house and dome alternately [oh tt reminds me, i didn't see a single starbucks there. just a thought.]. so he was just there, talking to cik lin and cik jun. and i was just there, staring at his hotness, shaun, with the really handsome face and dark eyes and two single-pierced ears with a diamante stud in each, wearing the black ale house tshirt and a santa hat sempena Christmas, and spinning/flipping a wine/beer glass in his hands. ahhh he's hot. can't believe God actually granted my doa to see him again before i left!!! so thank You, God.
the plane ride back was, frankly, not the best. firstly, the krisworld was one of those older models. so you couldn't stop or rewind the movie or whatever. and the movie selection was much less diverse. and they didn't have cds in the database or whatever. so this time i watched
the princess diaries 2, cos the version on my comp is quite lousy, and
wicker park, which i honestly think is one freaky movie. oh and the last bit of
love actually. i love the little girl, she is the prettiest little thing! there was also really really bad turbulence, which gave me a headache and prompted me to double my prayers for our collective safety. i even snapped at my brother for playing with the tray-table-thingy. apparently the turbulence was caused by the same forces tt caused the tsunamis. freaky.
so finally i got home [auntie june picked us up, but we couldn't all fit cos of our 100kg luggage], went online, and here i am, mengangguring.
